So you just moved into an active adult community. And there’s a clubhouse. What will you do in or with the clubhouse?

The clubhouse is the social activities center of the community. Hey, you just moved into a new community and probably you know very few people, if any. So go to the club house. This is where you meet people, this is where you have a social life that doesn’t involve your children.

The clubhouse almost always has some kind of an activity going on every day. You have card games, clubs, trips, the gym. Maybe go swimming or to the billiard room and shoot some pool. Watch out for the guys who come in with a two piece stick in a leather case. Especially if they say they don’t know how to shoot pool.

What are the rules?

Basic rules of the adult community clubhouse are that you get as involved or as un involved as you want to be. If there’s an activity that you love to do, they will have a club for that activity probably. If they don’t, put a sign on the bulletin board saying that you need some people to join you in whatever activity it is that you want to do. You will get responses. This is the Social Hub of the community. You are paying for it, use it.

And no – the adult community clubhouses don’t usually require that you know and use the secret handshake.
