Do you like doing home improvement around your house? Are you handy enough to do it right? Well if you’re looking to boost the value of your house, here’s a couple of ideas that a good do-it-yourselfer should be able to do on their own.
I’m sure you’ve heard the saying that there’s only one chance to make a good first impression. So let’s start looking at that. Here’s a few ideas to get your started.
Take a good long look at your front door. Is it all in dire need of paint or refinishing? if it’s a wood door, is it cracked? Is the paint peeling? Here’s some other things to look for. If the door is in good shape then you can probably just freshen it up a bit. Either refinish the wood or give it a nice paint job. Clean and polish the hardware or replace it with something a little nicer. If the hinges are worn, replace them. That’s real simple. If you decide replace the door, look for a good energy efficient and secure door. Don’t cut corners by going with a $200 steel door.
Take a look at your Landscaping. It’s simple just throw a couple hundred dollars at some new plants and stick them in the ground. But a better approach is to make sure your lawn is green and vibrant.. Try to focus on creating a healthy lawn. Fell in bare spots with some fresh seed or even sod. Fertilize everything and get a nice and green lawn. And clean up the edging along the sidewalks and pathways. Once you’re edging is done for the first time, it’s simple to keep it up with a string trimmer.
If the shrubbery is overgrown cut it back. Dead tree branches? Cut them off.
And then you can look to put some flowers in. You may want to plant perennials that come back year after year.
Next have some outdoor lighting. It helps keep you safe and it looks nice. I personally like to go for solar lighting. You don’t have to run wires, and cost nothing to run. Let the sun keep your house lit overnight.
You may not know it but your house might need to be clean. All homes get dirty, And over the years the areas of the home that don’t get much sun get some green mold growing on them. Power wash it. Also for the green mold there are number of chemicals you can spray on with the hose that will wash off that green so you don’t have to go up on top of the ladder with your pressure washer. And you may want to think about cleaning the sidewalks while you have the pressure washer out.
Use a few of these ideas and it will boost the value of your property and increase the saleability.
