Everything old is new again.

That’s what people keep saying. And they are also saying that the retro look is coming back.

And to that I say

POPPYCOCK!

The retro look has gone away, and it can stay away. Do you want Avocado Green appliances in your kitchen. Not me.

If you don’t want Avocado Green, does Harvest Gold sound like a better idea? Not to me.

Should I even ask about Flamingo Pink of whatever they called that horrid blue? I don’t think so.

Maybe a dining room chandelier with lots of fake crystals hanging off of it? Get real.

Multicolor shag rugs? I’ll pass.

Hey – here’s a good one. Formica counter tops with random geometric shapes in the pattern? Or Formica that emulates the look of wood butcher block? Let me think about that one for a minute – NO!

Sheet vinyl floors? Red wallpaper with prints of musical instruments in the finished basement? Let’s not forget about wood paneling in the den.

Maybe all of the above, and more, were the fashion thirty to fifty years ago. But we’ve moved past that, and that’s a good thing. Let’s let our love and desire for things from the sixties and seventies be for things that deserve our adoration. Something that’s good and pure, like…

Detroit Muscle Cars!

That’s right, let’s restore the GTOs, the Plymouth RoadRunners,  Mustangs and Camaros, and don’t forget the Corvette. And when we have them restored leave them in the garage. They may look good, but the new cars and head and heels better than an old muscle car.

But back to houses. Maybe we thought all these things looked great many years ago. But they don’t look great now. So let the good old days stay good. And let them stay good in your memories, not in your kitchen.
