at how difficult it is to show some homes. That’s because sometimes sellers, and sometimes their agents, make it difficult to show.
Appointment Challenges
Recently we were trying to find a home for a couple, we had just written a contract on their old house. One of the ones we suggested they see was a challenge to get into. We tried to make an appointment, however, the agent was slow in returning our calls. Once he finally responded, he said that because of their dog, the time we requested was not a good time. After we tried for 3 different appointments, finally the agent told us they were having an open house on Sunday, maybe we should go there. Well. We did, and we wrote a contract.
No Lockbox
Another time I tried to set 6 appointments in one day to show homes in 3 different active adult communities. After making 5, on the sixth I was told there is no lock box. As a result, I would need to go to the listing agent’s office to get the key and return it. It was a 20 – 25 minute drive each way. Between showing 5 homes, and an appointment later in the day, I did not have time to drive 40 minutes to get a key. We didn’t show that home and they purchased a different one.
Not Convenient
There have been other times where we’ve been told that when the buyers are available and want to see the house “it’s not a convenient time” for the seller.

The Solution?
These issues can be easily solved by installing a lock box. This will allow other Realtors access to the home. Lock boxes are secure, because they leave an electronic paper trail of who went into the home and when.
