Okay. So what is a lock box? A lockbox is, as it says, a box into which you put the key to your front door. However it’s a little more complicated than that. The box is opened by a Realtor who uses an electronic key or a cell phone to open the lockbox.. There is an electronic paper trail, so that it is very simple to find out what Realtor entered the property and when.
There is also a variation of the lockbox which uses a combination lock. For the Realtor to get access to the home, the listing Realtor has to give them the combination for the box. I personally don’t like this because there is no paper trail on this type of box.
So if you are selling your house, it is very important that people are able to get in to see it. And if you’re not around to let them in, you need to have a way that they can get in. And a lockbox is the best way that we have come up with.
