Tech Gadgets for your Home

The Internet of Things is here. These are the everyday items in your home that are connected to the Internet. And you may not even realize it!

You are probably aware of automated home assistants such as Google Home and Amazon Echo. What about the Amazon Fire Stick or the Roku box? These allow you to stream TV shows and movies from the Internet into your TV. And they are voice activated.

There are refrigerators that keep an inventory of what is inside. Do you have security cameras? You can watch them from your phone. You can answer your door bell from your phone, see who is there and talk to them

You can turn lights on and off from your phone. Also you can unlock your door. The NEST thermostat allows you to control your home’s temperature from your phone. And when it’s internal smoke or carbon monoxide alarm goes off, it can send a signal to your phone.

Wireless stereo speakers are common. Other possible Internet connected devices include lights, windows, window blinds appliances. Do you want your dinner ready when you get home? Turn on the oven from your phone while in the car. Just don’t do these things when you are driving.

You can even dispense food for your pet.

And you can control all of these either from your phone, using apps, or from a remote control.

Would you like a vacuum cleaner that automatically cleans? Yes – you con tell it when to vacuum. It listens better than your children.

What about a scale that sends your weight to a phone app? Did you forget to turn on the sprinklers for the lawn? No problem.

The thing is – do you want to be able to do all these things with your phone or your computer at work?
