There’s More Involved in Finding your Perfect Home

After searching for quite some time you have finally found your perfect home. It’s in your price range, it meets almost everything on your lists of needs and wants, and it’s actually available. So you should jump right in, go for it and pop the champagne cork!

But let’s hold on just a second here. You may still have some homework to do first. You’re guessing the inspection, right. Not yet.

Have you investigated the neighborhood? You know, have you checked for a few things that may be helpful? Remember – you are not only purchasing a new home, you are investing in the neighborhood where you will be living. Here are a few things to investigate.

Is there major construction planned nearby? Is shopping close and convenient? If you’re looking in an active adult community, does it offer the amenities you’ll be looking for? Is transportation available if you can’t, or simply don’t want to drive? How long will your commute be if you still work, or how far to the kids?

If kids are in the plans or are already in the picture, how are the schools? Are there other children in similar ages in the neighborhood?

These are all difficult questions to answer, but I fell they must be. And as much as I don’t want to say this, don’t rely upon your Realtor for answers. Your Realtor probably won’t have them.

So how do you find out? Go to the community on a weekend and walk around,. Talk to people who live there. They probably know the answers to your questions, and also to the questions you don’t know to ask. Try to get to work at the time you need to be there and find out what the commute is like. TIme spent on investigating the community will probably be well spent.
