TLC F Y HVAC

Catchy title? The acronyms stand for Tender Loving Care for your Heating Ventilation Air Conditioning.

You know, the thing that keeps you cold in the winter and hot in the summer.

WAIT! Shouldn’t it be the other way around?

Yes it should be warm in the winter and cool in the summer. But sometimes it just doesn’t work out that way. But if it is, maybe it’s time to bring in an HVAC technician. But here are a few things to look at.

When was the last time you changed the filter? Most people think changing the filter once or twice a year is enough. Many of those don’t actually do it. A clogged filter is the main cause of an inefficient HVAC system. You can get 30 filters or 90 day filters. There are also special filters if you have pets. I prefer the 30 day ones. But whichever filter you get, it does nothing if you don’t change them at the appropriate time. This is something you can do yourself. And when you compare the price of the filter against the extra cost of an inefficient system, BUY THE D_ _ _ FILTERS!

If your house is older, the system may not be removing enough air from the home to work properly. Many older homes do not have enough return air flow to operate properly.

Do you have electric heat of hot water baseboard heat? If yes, you only need the filters for the summer months. But remember to close the AC vents during the winter. If you don’t your heat will go into the duct work and probably right out through the roof vents.

If these ideas don’t work, it’s time to call in a professional.

Possible causes could be worn parts, such as belts. Or possibly a leak in the system or electrical issues.

Or maybe it’s plain and simply old age. The systems do wear out over the years.
