There are 8 adult communities in Lakewood. One, A Country Place, is within walking distance of houses of worship. The 8 communities offer almost 7000 adult community homes. In fact, there’s a combination of detached homes, condos and low rise 3 story buildings with elevators. Four Seasons has an executive 9 hole course. In addition, there are numerous public and private courses nearby.

Dining and Shopping

Lakewood has a downtown shopping area, with shopping and dining available. Other shopping and dining is available on Route 70 and Route 9, as well as in nearby towns. Three major malls are with a 30 minute drive, in Freehold, Eatontown and Toms River. Lakewood Airport offers flying lessons, charters and more. The Lakewood Industrial Park employs over 10,000 people.

Entertainment

The Strand Theater is the heart of the township’s performing arts scene, offering live shows throughout the year. Lakewood also offers annual events, including the Music in the Parks festival and the Carousel of Music concert series. Lakewood is also home to the Blue Claws – a minor league affiliate of the Philadelphia Phillies.

Commute and Transportation

Routes 9 & 70 go through the town, with I-195 and the Garden State Parkway nearby. Transportation to NYC is provided by NJ Transit bus service. Ocean Ride provides bus transportation within Ocean County. 12 bus routes connect key residential areas with popular destinations such as shopping and employment.

Medical Care

Kimball Medical Center is located in Lakewood, along with numerous doctor and medical offices. Ocean Ride provides door-to-door, non-emergency medical transportation service to seniors (age 60 and over).
