Are you moving? If you are chances are pretty good that except for possibly some family, you know very few if any people in your new neighborhood. Here are a few tips that might help you feel at home a little quicker.
Don’t wait for the neighbors to knock on your door. Beat them to the punch and knock on their doors to introduce yourself. Maybe they won’t become your friends but it’s always a good idea to know your neighbors. They can also be a good source of information. They may know the window washers, house cleaners handymen or plumbers.
If appropriate take a walk around the neighborhood. If not go for a drive. This way you can figure out where the local stores are for shopping, and where the libraries and parks are.
When you do meet people don’t be afraid to say that you’re new in town. A lot of people are more than willing to become friendly to newcomers in town, and are willing to share the information they have about the area.
Social media is a good way to get around town also. You might find out about some great restaurants, parks, museums or possibly free concerts.
Join a club. That’s always a great way to get involved. Join a Church. You never can tell where you may meet people you will become friends with.
When people ask you to join them for something, say yes. Even if it’s something that you don’t care to do. You’ll meet more people and widen your horizons about activities and hopefully develop some friends. Be open and be friendly, and you’ll be surprised how many people are open and friendly to you in return.
