Have you thought about a garage remodel?
Garage Remodel
So many people want to make their home nicer. These people renovate or remodel the kitchen, the baths, basement and more. But here’s a novel idea – renovate the garage!
Think about it. Most people, myself included, use the garage as storage space. Furniture, storage bins, (in my case) tools, bicycles, more tools, more bikes and the list goes on. I have my bike, Bunny’s bike, a daughter’s bike and 5 bikes in various sizes for the grandkids to use.
I have heard that some people actually put a car or two in the garage. Imagine that. I haven’t had a car in the garage for 30 years. There’s just too much stuff in there.
So how do you remodel a garage?
Start with a good workbench. At some point in time, you’ll need to do some type of a project. Maybe a simple project, or maybe something more complex. Either way, you will need room to work. A good workbench usually has some type of storage underneath for tools, misc materials and more. Many people, when they remodel the kitchen, will use the old kitchen cabinets for the garage. The base cabinets make a good work bench, just add a plywood counter top. The wall cabinets shouldn’t go overhead, you’ll need the room above to work. Put the wall cabinets somewhere else for more storage.
Add some lighting. Working on a project without adequate lighting is not fun. Mount some LED fixtures on the ceiling. If you don’t want to do that, get some portable lighting on a floor stand.
Do you need more room for tools? Get a good toolbox. Keep your tools in one place and keep them organized. That way you will know where they are when you need them. Put larger tools, such as rakes, shovels and the like on racks on the walls. Smaller tools can go on pegboard hooks. Storage racks can also help, just try to leave room for a car or two.
Flooring is also important. An epoxy coating on the floor keeps things much cleaner and nicer looking.
Last – think about safety
Invest in some good work gloves and also safety glasses. Getting foreign objects in your eyes while working is not fun.
